A Busy Year for JSF

December 6, 2022

It’s been quite a year – thank you all for your wonderful support.

As you are all aware due to Covid restrictions we were restricted in our fundraising capacity but were very fortunate to hold a wonderful fundraising lunch at the Abbey Restaurant in Ballasalla, IOM in October, a wonderful event that sold out and thanks must go to Joanna Crookall and Sheila Dean, and our many sponsors for their generosity.

The Space4Action Launch was on 21st October, 2021 at the Mountain View Innovation Centre in Ramsey, Isle of Man, we are delighted to have supported this group who provide bespoke training on coercive control and domestice abuse and we are delighted to have supported them this year. Click for Info

February was a busy month, on the 9th our patron Diana Parkes made a short film with Emma Barnett with the then HRH the Duchess of Cornwall, a previous meeting between Diana & Camilla had instigated Camilla’s desire to support domestic violence which she continues to do – a huge honour for us. On the 24th on Woman’s Hour Click to Hear, there was an in depth discussion where David Trickey, Consultant Clinical Psychologist shared his views on working with traumatised and bereaved children. The film was aired on BBC Breakfast on the 26th  Click to Watch

In March there was an interview with Diana about domestic violence and her work for JSF in The Daily Mail Click to Read .

On a glorious day in May we were lucky to host our 2nd Turquoise Ball at Ballacoiley Equestrian Centre, kindly donated by our Chair and trustee Joanna Crookall. Guests of honour, Governor Sir John Lorimer, along with his wife, made a very moving speech and we thank all those that supported and attended this wonderful event.

In July Diana and Hetti Barkworth-Nanton, Chair of Refuge UK and co-founder of JSF were interviewed on the ITV Lorraine programme raising the profile of miscarriages of justice and how the law needs to be changed. Later that month there was a very enjoyable competition at Ramsey Ladies Golf Club, huge thanks to all those that contributed in so many ways with all of the proceeds going to JSF.

Later in July for the 75th birthday of the then HRH Duchess of Cornwall, in a special issue of Vogue Magazine, Camilla stated that it was her meeting with Diana at Safelives in 2016 that had inspired her to do anything that she could to support work against domestic violence. The Duchess also reiterated these comments in her guest edit of Country Life Magazine

In August we had an enjoyable evening at Ramsey Golf Club and thank you to all those who contributed so generously.

November brought a meeting with Laura Richards a criminal behavioural analyst and international expert on domestic violence the podcast will air on 6th December.

Testament to the unwavering work of Diana and family is that she, along with her 2 grandchildren were personally invited by HRH The Queen Consort to an event at Buckingham Palace at an event to mark The United Nations Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. HRH The Queen Consort, Camilla, stated that it was due to an initial meeting with Diana, many years ago, that inspired her to commit to this cause.

On 2nd December Diana gratefully attended an assembly at The Buchan School Joanna’s Alma Mater, to receive a donation  of £632 for the 2nd year of funds raised from their Triathlon.

A huge thank you to the remarkable Sarah Burrows, Founder  CEO  at Children Heard & Seen More Info , for supporting our continued relationship. CHAS are the only charity supporting children & families impacted by parental imprisonment.

We are delighted to say that we have raised £42,562 and we are so grateful and give thanks to everyone that has assisted and donated for their generosity. As a dedicated group of trustees we have many plans to hold more fundraising events next year. We will continue to raise awareness of the plight of vulnerable children and stop the cycle of abuse.

Thank you all and we wish you a peaceful Christmas.
